We know not everyone watches TV show ‘The Block’ or has undertaken their own renovations before, so below is a quick guide to what you can expect once you have engaged MAX Floor Sanding.

First off,we recommend you do some prep:

• Some finishes can give off strong fumes. It may be advisable to arrange alternative accommodation for a couple of days. We will advise you when discussing finishes whether this will be necessary.


• Seal off parts of the house that won’t be used to reduce dust entering the rooms.


• Take down any curtains or blinds in the rooms to be sanded or, cover them with plastic.


• Cover light fittings and air conditioners with plastic.

Then the hard work is over to us!

• Obviously if the floors are carpeted, our first step will be to remove the carpet and determine the type and condition of the timber boards underneath.


• We’ll remove or punch down old nails, adhesive, staples and any other miscellaneous materials.


• We’ll then make repairs to any boards if needed, using colour matching to ensure the new boards blend in well with the original flooring.


• The next step is the major one and involves a complete sanding of the entire floor/s initially using a coarse-grit paper to ensure the floor surface is flat. We use a range of specialized machines for floor sanding which can sand large open spaces and also all get into tricky-to-reach corners and edges. After the coarse sand we perform finer sands to ensure a lovely, smooth finish.


• We then vacuum the floor to ensure the sanding dust does not infiltrate the rest of the house. Note if you are renovating it’s always best to get your floors done last, aim to have carpenters, electricians and painters etc finished up before we come through.


• Once the sanding and cleaning up is complete, your floors will be ready for staining and finishing. If you aren’t exactly sure what products or stain colours to choose, we’ll talk you through the benefits of different products and give our advice on what we think would work best in your house.
